Business
Business includes all those employees and employers who contribute their time, experience and skills to help students and mentors. It includes people from across all sectors and at all levels of a particular industry. In essence it is the ‘working community’. Mentors often try to support their student by linking him/her with someone else who can provide more accurate and uptodate information. This may be through a phone call, an interview or a work placement. It may be ‘paper’ information or, more often, speaking with someone in the industry who can provide a personal perspective and contribute to the student’s pool of information. Many busy people have been interviewed by a student and mentor. Young people have identified these short conversations as ‘extremely useful’ to reinforce their interest or encourage them to think about other work. The link between choices at school and choices after school becomes clearer. The business community has offered outstanding and essential support to Hunter Plan-it Youth mentors. Students consistently rate the input from business as extremely valuable.
